Omicron Variant | Bad news has emerged from Thane in Maharashtra amid the threat of the Omicron variant. Health officials say that out of 318 people who recently returned from abroad, 12 have not been traced. It has been learned that all of them are residents of Thane district of Maharashtra.

So far 10 cases of Omicron variant of corona have been reported in Maharashtra. This is the highest case of Omicron infection in the country. On Tuesday, officials of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Thane district said that at least 12 of the 318 passengers who had returned from abroad were missing. Municipal body chief Vijay Suryavanshi said a search operation was on to trace them. "Some of the passengers who returned cannot be reached as their mobile phones are switched off, while the addresses given by others are also wrong," he said.

The KDMC chief said that a team from the health department would again go to the given address. It is being told that in the last few days, similar reports of foreign returnees have been received from other states including Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Significantly, the new version of Kovid-19, Omicron, was first reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) from South Africa on 25 November. On 26 November WHO named the new variant of the Kovid-19 virus as B.1.1.1.529, which is colloquially named Omicron.
