New Delhi: 23-year-old Mawya Sudan, a resident of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, has created history. She has become the first woman from Jammu and Kashmir to join the Indian Air Force (IAF) as a fighter pilot. Maya had cleared the Air Force entrance exam last year itself. She has become the 12th woman officer to join the IAF and the first woman officer from the state to be inducted as a fighter pilot.

'Ab Mawya country's daughter'

Mawya Sudan participated as the only female fighter pilot in the passing out parade held at Dundigal Air Force Academy in Hyderabad on Saturday. He has been appointed as a Flying Officer in the Air Force. During this, Air Force Chief RKS Bhadauria (R.K.S Bhadauria) was also present. At the same time, there is an atmosphere of happiness in the family on this achievement of the daughter. Mavya's father Vinod Sudan said that he is feeling proud. Now she is not only our daughter but also the daughter of the country. We are constantly getting congratulatory messages.

Must go through rigorous training

Mavya Sudan will now have to undergo rigorous combat training for more than a year. Earlier, Flight Lieutenants Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawna Kanth and Mohana Singh had joined the Fighter Stream as Flying Officers in 2016 after basic training. Now the name of Mavya Sudan has also been included in this list. The IAF currently has 11 women fighter pilots who have undergone rigorous training to fly supersonic jets.

Maya's mother Sushma Sudan expressed her happiness and said, 'My chest is wide with pride. I am very happy today. My daughter has got the fruits of her hard work. Mavya has enhanced our honor'. Mavya's sister told that Mavya wanted to go to the Air Force since school days, she always talked about flying fighter planes. Today his dream has come true.
