The central government is mulling extending the 21-day lockdown in the country after several states have requested for it given the spike in cases, top sources of the Union government said today. India’s tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 4,221 today with the death toll at 114. The spike in cases has prompted speculation that India may extend the 21-day lockdown to contain the spread of the pandemic.

A recent study states that if someone does not follow social distancing then in 30 days, a single infected person can infect 406 others. 2.5 persons will be infected if social distancing is maintained by a single individual, says Lav Agarwal.

The Indian Railways has prepared 40,000 isolation beds in 2,500 coaches. They are making 375 isolation beds daily and this is going on across 133 locations across the country, says Lav Agarwal.

The Health Ministry has set up several facilities for COVID-19 patients and these facilities have been divided into three groups - care centres, health centres and hospitals - depending on the status of patients.
