IPL 2022 | Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower has resigned as assistant coach of Punjab Kings and is likely to join a new team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Flower, who worked as a coach in England for more than a decade, was associated with Punjab Kings before the 2020 season. This was the first time that he was associated with an IPL team. An official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, "He recently sent his resignation to the team. It has been accepted."

"There is every possibility that he will join a new team (Lucknow or Ahmedabad). In the next IPL, this 53-year-old former batsman will be given a more important responsibility.” Flower had been working with head coach Anil Kumble for the last two years. He has taken this decision at a time when there are speculations that KL Rahul, who has been the captain of Punjab Kings for the last two seasons, may join the Lucknow franchise.

Punjab wanted to retain Rahul in the team, but this opening batsman wants to join some other team. It remains to be seen whether Flower will continue to coach St Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). This franchise is also owned by the same group that owns Punjab Kings. Wasim Jaffer was the batting coach of Punjab Kings last season and Jonty Rhodes was the fielding coach. Punjab has retained only two players Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh in their squad ahead of the January auction.
