Cricket Desk: The Delhi Capitals (DC) faced off against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the second match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). After losing the toss, the Capitals posted 157 runs for the loss of eight wickets after 20 overs thanks to Marcus Stoinis who smashed the third fastest fifty for the Delhi franchise. His 21-ball 53-run knock propelled DC from a hopeless position.

The momentum was with the Capitals going into the second innings and their bowlers didn’t disappoint either. While KL Rahul was castled by Mohit Sharma, it was Ravi Ashwin who stunned his previous franchise with two wickets in his very first over. The sixth over of the innings saw Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran getting out to leaving the team reeling at 34/3.

But the last ball of the over witnessed Ashwin injuring himself after diving to stop a single. He bowled a decent delivery which Glenn Maxwell pushed towards the long-off to churn out a single. But in a bid to keep the pressure on the opposition, Ravi Ashwin dived to stop the ball only to fail and instead ended up dislocating his shoulder.

The physio attended him soon after and the off-spinner walked off to not contribute again in the innings. It was so unfortunate as he had bowled the over superbly going for only a couple of runs apart from picking up two wickets.

Ajinkya Rahane came in as a substitute

Rather the Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting was seen signalling the skipper Shreyas Iyer that Ravi Ashwin is done for the day after the injury he sustained. Ajinkya Rahane came in a substitute fielder for him after being benched for the game.

Meanwhile, the scenes were not good when the cameras showed Ashwin in the dressing room. He will be most probably ruled out of the action for 2-3 weeks and it remains to be seen when the team announces the same. It will be a huge blow for the Capitals, if the experienced spinner is ruled out of the whole tournament.
