New Delhi : The Congress also seems to be scattered over the security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab. While Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi does not consider it a mistake, many senior leaders of his own party have termed it as malicious. Those leaders include names like former Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar and Rajya Sabha MP Manish Tewari.

There is a round of allegations and counter allegations between the Congress and the BJP regarding the lapse in the security of PM Modi. There are differing opinions even within the Congress on this issue. Many party leaders are raising questions on their own government. This may increase the difficulty of the party in the coming days.

After former Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar, Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari has also kept his point apart from the party line. Terming the incident of lapse in the security of the Prime Minister as unfortunate, Manish has demanded an inquiry into the entire matter by a sitting judge of the High Court.

Manish Tewari admits unfortunate

Manish Tewari tweeted that the matter of lapse in the security of the Prime Minister was unfortunate. This should not have happened. He is watching the entire controversy very closely. He further said, "A law has been made in the Parliament regarding the security of the Prime Minister, which is called the SPG Act. This act was amended in 2019. He said that the security lapse of the Prime Minister is a sensitive matter. It should not be made a political football. A sitting judge of the High Court should get the matter investigated to bring out the true facts.

Punjab government has formed a committee

Manish Tewari's remarks came at a time when the Punjab government had constituted a committee comprising Justices (Retd) Mahtab Singh Gill and Anurag Verma. It is known that earlier party leader Sunil Jakhar has also surrounded the Channi government on this issue. He had said that whatever happened in Punjab is not acceptable. The Prime Minister should have been given a safe way to reach the rally venue.

Jakhar had said it was against Punjabiyat

Senior Congress leader from Punjab Sunil Jakhar had said on Wednesday that the Prime Minister should have been provided a safe route for his rally in Ferozepur. "What happened today is unacceptable. It is against Punjabiyat. The Prime Minister of the country should have been provided a safe passage to address the BJP rally in Ferozepur. That's how democracy works."

Channi called it a gimmick of the Prime Minister

Facing criticism from the BJP over a "security lapse" during the prime minister's visit to Punjab, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday alleged that Narendra Modi's "gimmick for life" was aimed at "democratic" in the state. To bring down a well-elected government". Channi said the Prime Minister is a respected leader of the country, but it does not suit a leader of his stature to indulge in such "cheesy gimmicks".

The chief minister claimed that there was no threat to Modi's life, but canceled his program due to less number of people attending the BJP's rally in Ferozepur. The prime minister went back to the national capital citing "trivial reasons for security threat" because of empty chairs at the rally venue, he said. Channi alleged that the "false pretext" on which the prime minister canceled his visit was "part of a larger conspiracy to defame Punjab and kill democracy in the state as was done in the past in Jammu and Kashmir".
