Coronavirus / Coronavirus cases in India rise to 649; death toll surges to 13

New Delhi: Total number of COVID19 positive cases reached  649 in India, including 593 active cases, 42 cured/discharged people and 13 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday. The death toll has reached 10. As India enters day 2 of the nationwide lockdown, the government is expected to announce more measure to ease the stress on Indian citizens. There are reports of an economic package that can be announced in the coming days. Also, eligible people with ration cards may get some subsidised food grains and direct benefit transfer in their accounts. Interacting with people of his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi on Wednesday via video conferencing over issues concerning Coronavirus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that social distancing, to be at home is only way out and best option to deal with coronavirus.

India has been placed under “complete lockdown” for the next 21 days to tackle coronavirus even as the COVID-19 positive cases continue to surge. The maximum number of coronavirus positive cases have been reported from Kerala and Maharashtra. Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have over 30 cases.

Union Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all state governments and Union Territories to set up a 24×7 control rooms or offices and start helplines at state or district level to address any grievances or problems faced by providers of goods services this coronavirus lockdown.
