Coronavirus / Coronavirus death toll in India rises to 75, total cases cross 3,000

The death toll due to coronavirus in India has risen to 75, with Maharashtra reporting the most number of deaths so far, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Further, the total number of cases has risen to 3,072, out of which 2,784 cases are active. As many as 212 COVID-19 patients in India have recovered.

New Delhi: India reported 601 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours to take overall numbers to 3072, said the government on Saturday as it advised people to use "homemade face covers" when stepping out. The death toll has now mounted to 75.

 At least 42 per cent cases are among people between 21-40 years of age and 32 per cent in the 41-60 year category, said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the health ministry. Nine per cent cases are in the 0-20 year bracket and 17 per cent are above 60 years. As many 68 people have died of the disease in India till now, according to the ministry.

As many 1023 cases in 17 states were related to the Tablighi Jamaat, said Agarwal, referring to an Islamic group’s congregation in Delhi in mid-March.
