Coronavirus / COVID-19 cases in Chennai cross 10,000; Tamil Nadu's tally crosses 16,000

CHENNAI: A total of 765 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, according to an official release from the state health department. This pushed up the total state tally to 16,277.

This includes one person, who returned from Dubai, two from the UK and Philippines, who initially tested negative, however, on Sunday’s exit test they were tested positive and 44 passengers who returned from other Indian states.

Of the total cases, nearly 76% was reported in Chennai district that is 587 cases, taking the total city tally to 10,576.

Totally eight Covid-19 deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu on Sunday and all were from Chennai and its suburbs. Death toll now stands at 111, the release added. On a positive side, as many as 833 patients were discharged on Sunday after treatment.
