IMD Weather Prediction / Cyclone will not knock in Odisha-Andhra Pradesh, return of scorching heat in north-central India

New Delhi: In a major relief to the people and the administration, the IMD on Saturday announced that the cyclonic storm formed in the Bay of Bengal will not make landfall in Odisha or Andhra Pradesh but will move parallel to the coast. India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the cyclone will turn north-northeastwards and move towards Bay of Bengal near north Andhra-Odisha coast. The well marked low pressure area has turned into a depression and is now moving in a northwest direction towards the coast. It will continue to move in that direction till the evening of May 10, and thereafter move north-northeastwards parallel to the coast.

According to the special bulletin of IMD, light to moderate rain is very likely at many places over Coastal Odisha on the evening of May 10. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is very likely at one or two places over Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri. The next day, there will be heavy rain at one or two places in Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack. Rain is also forecast in parts of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. According to the Safdarjung Meteorological Center, there will be heatwave conditions in the national capital Delhi from May 9 to 13. The maximum temperature during this period is likely to be around 43 or 44 degree Celsius. In the next six days, the minimum temperature in the national capital is likely to be in the range of 24 to 28 degrees.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that after relief for the last few days, heat wave conditions are likely in parts of Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Delhi in the coming days. Earlier, in a high-level meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation related to heatwave management and preparedness for monsoon and advised states and union territories to prepare heat action plans at both the state, as well as city and district levels. The IMD has predicted an increase of 2-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures over most parts of Northwest and Central India during the next three days

IMD has predicted thunderstorm/lightning over Assam-Meghalaya and Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura from May 7 to 9. Till May 10, light rain is expected in almost all the districts of West-North and North-East Bihar. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, now there may be a decrease in storm and water. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heat wave in many areas of Rajasthan from Sunday, expressing the forecast of heat wave again. In the districts of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 44 degree to 45 degree Celsius and heatwave is likely.
