Cricket Desk: Royal Challengers Bangalore, on September 20, lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, RCB were shot out for 92 in 19 overs. Varun Chakravarthy’s magical spell didn’t allow them to make a recovery. Devdutt Padikkal top-scored for the Challengers with 22 runs before Lockie Ferguson dismissed him.

The Knights chased down the target with 10 overs to spare. With the defeat, RCB stayed at third in the points table, but now have the worst net run rate among all the eight participating teams in the tournament. In the meantime, one of Deepika Padukone’s old tweets has been doing the rounds after Virat Kohli and Co slumped to the shambolic loss in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

Deepika’s tweet was surrounding a game between RCB and Rajasthan Royals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore back in 2010. In that game, the Challengers bowled the Royals out for 92 after Praveen Kumar and Anil Kumble picked up three wickets each.

However, it was Jacques Kallis, who won the Player of the Match award. The former South African cricketer scored an unbeaten 34-ball 44 with seven fours and also picked up the crucial wickets of RR opener Naman Ojha and Australia’s Damien Martyn.

“92!!is that even a score!?way to go RCB!with u guys all the way…watching every second of it live!” Deepika’s tweet read. The Challengers, then led by Kumble, won the game by 10 wickets.

In the meantime, after Monday’s loss, RCB skipper Kohli said that his team couldn’t stitch together necessary partnerships. The 32-year-old reckoned that the defeat was a “wake-up call” for the Challengers going into the business end of the cash-rich and prestigious league.

“Was important to get a good partnership. We didn’t expect that much dew to kick in that early. From 42 for 1, we lost 5 wickets for 20-odd. Bit of a wake-up call, might as well have this at the start of the second leg so that we know what we should work on,” Virat was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
