Maharashtra News: Thousands of employees of 3 government power companies of Maharashtra went on a 72-hour strike on Wednesday in protest against the privatization of power companies. He took this step amid the Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act (MESMA) being invoked by the state government. Giving information about this, a leader of the Employees' Union said that peaceful protests are being held across the state. At the same time, the government has directed the concerned authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure normal supply of electricity in the state.

'Employees protesting by sitting in pandals'

Krishna Bhoir, general secretary of the Maharashtra State Electricity Employees Union, told that thousands of employees of all the three companies are participating in the strike which began at midnight. He said that the protest is being held peacefully across the state and the protesting employees are sitting in pandals outside their establishments. Bhoir said that the state government has called him for the meeting and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will meet the working committee members of the employees union at Sahyadri Guest House at around 1 pm.

Know, what is the main demand of the strikers

Maharashtra State Electricity Marketing Company Limited (MahaVitaran), Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MahaPareshan) and Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MahaNirmiti) are power companies owned by the state government. The Maharashtra State Employees, Officers and Abhiyaan Sangharsh Samiti, a working committee of 31 unions of power companies, launched the agitation last month to press for their various demands. Their main demand is not to issue 'parallel distribution license' to Adani Group's power company. This power company had sought a license in November 2022 to expand its business to some more areas of Mumbai.
