Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the elections in Himachal Pradesh. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that voting will be held in the hill state on November 12 and results will be declared on December 8. Assembly elections are also to be held in Gujarat but the dates have not been announced for there yet. In Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Rajiv Kumar also explained the reason for not announcing the election dates in Gujarat. He also denied that any rule was violated in doing so.

As soon as the news of the Election Commission's PC came, there was speculation that the dates of Himachal and Gujarat assembly elections would be announced. In two states, if the term of the assembly ends within six months, the elections are held simultaneously and the result is declared simultaneously. On the question of non-announcement of dates for Gujarat elections, Rajiv Kumar said that no rule has been violated. He said, "There is a difference of 40 days in the end of the term of the Legislative Assembly of both the states. As per the rules, it should be at least 30 days so that the result of one does not affect the other.

Regarding elections in Himachal before Gujarat, Rajiv said, "There are many factors like weather, we want elections in Himachal before snowfall." He said that the Election Commission has consulted with many stakeholders. It was also informed that the period of code of conduct has also been reduced from 70 days to 57 days. In 2017, the elections in both the states were held in November and results were declared simultaneously in December. Voting in Gujarat was held in two phases.

Voting possible in Gujarat from 12 November to 7 December

In Gujarat and Himachal, it has been happening on adjacent dates and the results are also declared at the same time. As in 2012 and 2017, this time also the counting of votes in both the states can be held simultaneously on 8th December. According to sources, the Election Commission may announce the election dates in Gujarat after Diwali. It can happen in Gujarat between November 12 and November 7. Here voting can be done in two phases.
