News / Himachal issues advisory for avalanche, Delhi-NCR receives light rain

Poor weather continues in Himachal Pradesh and the state disaster management authority has issued an advisory to all departments and general public in view of an avalanche warning for today. The Snow has issued a warning for snow and avalanche on February 6 (today) in Kullu, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti, Shimla, Kangra and Kinnaur districts of Himachal Pradesh.

A spokesperson of the state government said the district administration/district disaster management authorities (DDMAs) have been advised to keep a close watch and monitor the situation in their areas regularly and take appropriate precautionary measures. They have been directed to keep search and rescue teams on standby and avoid movement on slopes where avalanche warning has been issued.

The departments concerned have been asked to keep a close watch on national highways and other roads and make plans for evacuation of unprotected settlements on or near the avalanche paths.

The general public in Himachal Pradesh has been advised to keep adequate stock of essential commodities and emergency medicines.

Light shower in Delhi-NCR

Meanwhile on Tuesday, Delhi and the NCR woke up to a chilly morning as light showers were witnessed in parts of the national capital, and nearby Noida and Gurugram.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread rain and snow with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are very likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Wednesday (February 7).

The weather department also predicted rainfall with isolated heavy falls over the northern parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and western Uttar Pradesh on February 7. Thunderstorms accompanied with hailstorms at isolated places are likely over western Himalayan region, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan during the next two days.

Thunderstorms and hailstorms are also predicted over north Madhya Pradesh on February 7, north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand on February 8, Bihar on February 7-8 and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on February 8 and February 9 and over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh on February 9.
