Locals were also seen waving the tricolor and singing Vande Mataram.

A man had his entire body painted with the colors of the national flag. People raised the tricolor flag on top of the iconic Clock tower at Lal Chowk. The process of hoisting the tricolor near the clock tower went on for a long time. One group after another was seen flying the flag. Another group including women were also seen posing with a flag in front of Lal Chowk.

A man told TIMES NOW that he had come from Ahmedabad to Ghanta Ghar in Srinagar to raise the Indian flag and celebrate the Amrit Festival of Independence. Another person had come from Punjab, while another person had come from Uttar Pradesh. He called for peace and unity among different communities.

Let us tell you that about 30 years ago, BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi had hoisted the 'Lal Chowk' flag for the first time. After that this place has been in controversy. However, in January this year, when India celebrated its 73rd Republic Day, social activists Sajid Yusuf Shah and Sahil Bashir Bhat organized a flag hoisting ceremony with dozens of supporters.
