IPL 2021 / Jason Holder's 47* in vain as Punjab beat Sunrisers by 5 runs

In IPL-2021 Phase-2, the second match of the day was played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday, which Punjab won by 5 runs in the last over. In the match, SRH had a target of 126 runs, in response to which the team could only score 120/7 and lost the match.


The match reached the last ball

In the last over, SRH needed 17 runs to win the match. Jason Holder made the match exciting by hitting a six off the second ball of the over. At one point it seemed that the match might result in a super-over. However this did not happen. Actually, SRH had to hit a six for the super-over on the last ball, but Holder failed to do so and Punjab won the match by 5 runs. With the defeat in the match, Hyderabad became the first team to be knocked out of the play-off race in the current season.


Hyderabad faltered in the very beginning

Chasing the target, SRH got off to a very poor start. David Warner (2), playing his 150th IPL match in the very first over, was out for runs. Captain Kane Williamson (1) also could not show the courage to stand on the wicket. For Punjab, both these wickets came in the account of Mohammed Shami. Manish Pandey (13) also could not show anything amazing and his wicket came in Ravi Bishnoi's account.


Bishnoi took 2 wickets in an over

Ravi Bishnoi made a brilliant comeback in the playing XI and picked up two wickets in his one over. In the 13th over of Hyderabad's innings, Bishnoi broke the back of SRH's team by dismissing Kedar Jadhav (12) and Abdul Samad (1). Before these two wickets, he also showed Manish Pandey (13) the way to the pavilion.


Wriddhiman Saha struggled for a long time and was run out after scoring 37 balls (31) runs. Holder played an unbeaten innings of 47 runs off 29 balls for Hyderabad, but could not get the team to victory.


Punjab batsmen disappointed

Going to play first after losing the toss, Punjab started poorly. In the 5th over, Jason Holder got two big breakthroughs for SRH by dismissing KL Rahul (21) and Mayank Agarwal (5). A big innings was expected from Chris Gayle, but he also disappointed and (14) was dismissed by Rashid Khan. The bat of Nicholas Pooran (8) also remained silent and he returned to the pavilion after being dismissed by Sandeep Sharma. Aiden Markram played 32 balls, but could only score 27 runs.


Suchit's catch went viral

In the 16th over of Punjab's innings, substitute fielder Jagdish Suchit caught a catch that is being well-liked on social media. Suchit caught the catch of Deepak Hooda while fielding covers off Holder's ball. PBKS scored 125/7 in 20 overs. Jason Holder managed to take 3 wickets for SRH.


Punjab's 200th IPL Match

Punjab Kings is playing its 200th IPL match today. Punjab became the 5th team in IPL history to achieve this feat. PBKS is preceded by the names of Mumbai Indians (212), Royal Challengers Bangalore (205), Delhi Capitals (204) and Kolkata Knight Riders (201).
