Today is the 116th birth anniversary of India's second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Living a simple life, Shastri was a skilled Gandhian leader.  Shastriji was also a calm-minded person who lived a simple life. Shastri was born as Munshi Lal Bahadur Shastri on 2 October 1904 in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh. When he was the youngest in his house, he was fondly called Tiny. His mother's name was Ram Dulari and his father's name was Munshi Prasad Srivastava. Shastri's wife's name was Lalitha Devi. Learn 10 important things related to his life - 

1. Education achieved in difficult circumstances-

Due to the death of the father in his childhood, the children went to Mirzapur near Nana with his mother. It was here that he got his primary education. He received education under odd conditions. It is said that he used to swim to the river and go to school everyday. Because when there were schools in very few villages. 

2. When Lal Bahadur Shastri left Sanskrit from Kashi Vidyapeeth, he was given the title of Shastri. After this, he started applying Shastri in front of his name.

3. He gave up his studies at the age of 16 and joined Gandhiji's Non-Cooperation Movement.

4. Shastri was married to Lalita Shastri in 1928. Who had two daughters and four sons. 

5. Like other leaders of the country, Shastri ji also had the desire to liberate the country, so he jumped into the freedom struggle in 1920 itself. He participated actively in the British Quit India Movement from Gandhi to Non-Cooperation Movement from 1921 to 1942. During this time he was also arrested several times and became a victim of police action.

6. The slogan of 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' after Shastri ji became the Prime Minister, there was a war of India Pakistan in 1965 in which Shastri ji took over the country in odd circumstances. He also gave the slogan of 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' to highlight the importance of army soldiers and farmers. 

7. After independence, he moved to New Delhi in 1951 and took charge of several departments of the Union Cabinet. He was Minister of Railways, Transport and Communications Minister, Commerce and Industry Minister, Home Minister and Minister of the Department during Nehruji's illness.

8. In 1964, when Lal Bahadur Shastri became the Prime Minister. During his reign, there was a war between India and Pakistan in 1965.

9. There was shortage of food grains in the country during the war with Pakistan. The country was going through the problem of starvation. During that crisis, Lal Bahadur Shastri stopped taking his salary. Lal Bahadur Shastri appealed to the people of the country to observe a fast once a week.

10. He breathed his last on 11 January 1966 in Tashkent. On January 10, 1966, Lal Bahadur Shastri died suddenly in Tashkent, just 12 hours after the agreement on peace with Pakistan. Some people still see his death as a mystery.
