Lok Sabha / Lok Sabha Election 2019 : 48.38% polling till 3 pm, West Bengal sees 61% turnout

Lok Sabha election 2019 Phase 5 updates: Nine crore voters across 51 constituencies will decide the fate of 674 candidates. The Phase 5 of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will see political heavyweights Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi fight to protect family bastions Amethi and Raebareli.


On the other hand are BJP bigwigs Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani who will also be testing their fates from Lucknow and Amethi. Voting will take place in 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, seven seats each in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar and four in Jharkhand. In Jammu and Kashmir, polling will take place in Ladakh constituency and Pulwama and Shopian districts of Anantnag seat. 


Election Commission of India has given relaxation in Model Code of Conduct in Maharashtra and has allowed the state government to carry out drought relief work.


Voting percentage till 3 pm:


Bihar : 44.08 per cent

Jammu and Kashmir :12.86 per cent

Madhya Pradesh : 48.76 per cent

Rajasthan : 49.50 per cent

Uttar Pradesh : 43.07 per cent

West Bengal : 61.01 per cent

Jharkhand : 51.07 per cent

Total Percentage : 48.38


Actress Swara Bhasker spoke on BJP Bhopal candidate Sadhvi Pragya, saying "Pragya Thakur calls herself a Hindu and she is accused of terrorism. Hence she is a Hindu terror accused."Speaking in Jhargram, PM Modi said, " He [Sitaram Yechury] did not even respect the words in his name, 'Sita-Ram,' he insulted Ramayana and Mahabharata."


In an article for the CPIM mouthpiece, People's Democracy, Sitaram Yechury took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his claim that Hindus can never be violent, alleging that Modi erases Indian history replete with gruesome battles and wars.


"Strange for an RSS pracharak, who preaches that our epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata replete with conflicts and violent wars is the only source of our history," Yechury had written in a swipe at Modi.
