Lok sabha election 2019 phase 5 updates: Nine crore voters across 51 constituencies will decide the fate of 674 candidates. The phase 5 of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will see political heavyweights Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi fight to protect family bastions Amethi and Raebareli. On the other hand are BJP bigwigs Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani who will also be testing their fates from Lucknow and Amethi.

Voting will take place in 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, seven seats each in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar and four in Jharkhand. In Jammu and Kashmir, polling will take place in Ladakh constituency and Pulwama and Shopian districts of Anantnag seat.

The Congress party on Monday filed a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Election Commission of India for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The development comes a day after PM Modi had attacked former PM Rajiv Gandhi in an election rally in Uttar Pradesh's Basti without mentioning his name.

A 105-year-old woman cast her vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2019 at a polling booth in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.

BJP's Amethi candidate Smriti Irani slammed Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and accused the Gandhi family of playing politics, even at the cost of a person's life. She was referring to a person who died after he was denied treatment in an Amethi hospital in which Rahul Gandhi is a trustee.

On Priyanka Gandhi, Union minister Smriti Irani said: "She did not know my name 5 years back, now she keeps taking my name, such an accomplishment. Nowadays she takes her husband's name less and my name more."

The most volatile areas in Anantnag parliamentary constituency -- Pulwama and Shopian are going to polls today. Security forces have been deployed in abundance and voter turnout is the biggest challenge for the administration.

Former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti is pitted against state Congress president GA Mir in the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency where polling is being held in three phases due to security reasons.
