New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said a new defense ecosystem is being developed in India where imports are being reduced and exports are increasing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this at the NIIO (Naval Innovation and Indigenization Organization) seminar 'Swavalamban' organized by the Indian Navy. He said that the goal of self-reliance in the Indian armies is very important for the India of the 21st century. Organizing the first self-reliance seminar for a self-reliant Navy is an important step in this direction.

Speaking at the naval event, Modi said, “We have made a habit of relying on foreign countries even for the simplest products. Like drug addicts, we were also used to importing products from abroad. To change this mindset, we worked on a mission mode after 2014 to create a new ecosystem of defense with the help of 'Sabka Prayas'." He added, "It's not that we don't have talent. We have talent. Letting my soldiers go into the field with the same 10 weapons that the world has... I can't take that risk. My jawan will have that weapon which the opponent will not even be able to imagine."

Calling for intensifying the war against forces challenging India's self-confidence and self-reliance, PM Modi said on Monday that it is necessary to thwart every such attempt. The Prime Minister also said that as India establishes itself on the global stage, there are constant attacks through propaganda.

He said, "Having faith in ourselves, the forces that are harming India's interests, whether in the country or abroad, have to thwart their every effort." Attention should be paid to the important side. We have to intensify our war against forces challenging India's self-confidence, our self-reliance."

The Prime Minister said that the defense of the nation is no longer limited only to the borders, but is very broad, so it is equally necessary to make every citizen aware about it. He said, "Just as we are moving forward with 'Hole of the Government Approach' for self-reliant India, similarly 'Hole of the Nation Approach' is the need of the hour for the defense of the nation. This collective national consciousness of various people of India is the strong basis of security and prosperity.

The Prime Minister said that now the threats to national security have also become widespread and the modus operandi of war is also changing. He said that earlier defense was conceived only till land, sea and sky, but now its scope is expanding towards space, cyber space and economic and social space.

The Prime Minister said that in the last 8 years, the Central Government has not only increased the defense budget, but has also ensured that these budgets are useful in the development of the defense manufacturing ecosystem in the country itself. He said that today a large part of the budget earmarked for the purchase of defense equipment is being spent in procurement from Indian companies.

“Our defense imports have come down by about 21 per cent in the last four-five years. Today we are rapidly moving from being the largest defense importer to a major exporter. The objective of this conference is to connect Indian industry and academia to achieve self-reliance in the defense sector.
