New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices continue to rise. Regarding this, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the main reason for this is the increase in crude oil prices in the international market, where the price of crude oil is more than US $ 70 per barrel. He said that India imports 80 percent of the oil, which is why consumers are affected.

On the question of bringing petroleum products under the purview of GST, he said that he agrees with this view. He said, "The price of this commodity is controlled by the global market. I am of the opinion that fuel should be brought under GST. But, this will be done only when the members of the GST Council reach a consensus."

Petrol in Delhi is at its all-time high of Rs 95.31 per liter. At the same time, diesel has reached Rs 86.22 per liter. Petrol in Mumbai is being sold at the rate of 101.52 and diesel at 93.58 per liter. In six states and union territories (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Ladakh), Pretol is currently being sold beyond Rs 100 per liter.

Congress target

The Congress on Monday hit out at the government over the hike in petrol and diesel prices, alleging that "waves of tax collection epidemic" are continuously coming.

Former party president Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "The process of unlocking is starting in many states. While paying the bill at the petrol pump, you will see the increase in inflation done by the Modi government. The waves of tax collection epidemic are coming continuously.

Party's chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "Horrible massacre - Petrol costlier by Rs 25.72, diesel by Rs 23.93 per liter in last 13 months! 100 per liter in many states.” He alleged, “The increase in taxes by the Modi government is not responsible for the record-breaking increase in petrol-diesel.
