New Delhi : The states have urged the central leadership to give preference to local leaders for deciding the Rajya Sabha candidate in the BJP. The panel of names sent to the Center from different states consists mostly of sitting MPs and local leaders among the new names. The central leadership will put its stamp on the names after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his visit to Japan. According to sources, about half a dozen new faces will be made Rajya Sabha candidates.

Voting for ten Rajya Sabha seats is to be held on June 10. Nominations are to be filled by 31 May. BJP is going to field its candidates in 11 states. Of these, 25 seats of BJP are falling vacant. Considering the position of BJP and allies in the assemblies, BJP can again win 22 seats.

They will be given preference

According to sources, many states including Uttarakhand, Karnataka, UP want the party to give preference to the leader of the state in deciding new candidates. Except ministers and sitting MPs, leaders of other states should not be fielded. This time new faces will be brought in place of MJ Akbar, KJ Alphons, Vikas Mahatme, Gopal Narayan Singh, Om Mathur.

States will be replaced by them

Some of the states can be changed in Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. Party President JP Nadda has started discussions with senior leaders on the names of possible candidates.
