New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the goddess has blessings on the country, amid a controversy over the rhetoric on Maa Kali after the poster of the film Kali. The consciousness of Maa Kali is in the faith of the whole of India. This statement of PM Modi is also being linked to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee because her party TMC MP Mahua Moitra had made controversial statements about Maa Kali. A case has also been registered against Moitra and BJP has demanded suspension from TMC.

While addressing the birth centenary program of Swami Atmasthanand ji on Sunday through video conferencing, PM Modi remembered Ramakrishna Paramhans and said, Swami Ramakrishna Paramhans was a saint who experienced Maa Kali before his eyes. PM Modi also mentioned the Kali Puja of Bengal and Swami Vivekananda. The PM said, 'Swami Vivekananda's stature was like this but, he used to become like a child in the devotion of Goddess Kali. Swami Atmasthanand also had such unwavering faith. Maa Kali's blessings are always with India.'

After the statement given by PM Modi, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya targeted Mahua Moitra. Malviya tweeted, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks respectfully about Maa Kali being the center of devotion not only for Bengal but for the whole of India. On the other hand a TMC MP insults him and Mamata Banerjee defends him instead of taking action against him.

What did Moitra say?

In fact, amid the controversy over the poster of the film Kali, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra has said, 'For him, Goddess Kali is a meat lover, a goddess who accepts alcohol'. Controversy arose after an MP made such a statement. TMC distanced itself from the comment, saying it was Moitra's personal opinion and not the party's. Moitra still stuck to her comments.
