Showing a document, he said, 'This is the most important document for me, it contains Savarkar ji's letter which he wrote in English. He has written that 'Sir, I want to be your (British) servant, I have not written this, Savarkar ji wrote, I am very clear that Savkar ji helped the British.'

It is worth mentioning that during his padyatra, Rahul Gandhi had targeted Savarkar in a rally organized in Washim district on Tuesday. He had said, “Savarkar is the symbol of BJP-RSS. He remained in jail in Andaman for two-three years. They started writing mercy petitions.

Shinde and Fadnavis criticized Rahul's statement

This statement of Rahul Gandhi has been criticized by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. Addressing a seminar on Hindutva at Savarkar Memorial in Mumbai on Wednesday, Shinde said that the people of the state will not tolerate any insult to the Hindutva ideologue. Referring to former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, he said that the revered freedom fighter was insulted in Maharashtra while there are people who have taken a soft stand on the issue.

On the other hand, Fadnavis said that the people of Maharashtra will give a befitting reply to the insult of the Hindutva ideologue. The BJP leader said, 'Like other Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi is lying about late VD Savarkar everyday. The people of Maharashtra will give a befitting reply to him at the appropriate time.
