London. Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Saturday that UK Foreign Office officials have been briefed on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, where several major cities have become practically COVID-free. He said the British authorities have also been urged to consider reviewing the travel ban on visitors from India. The foreign secretary arrived here on Friday on a two-day visit to take stock of the agreement on "Roadmap 2030" between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson for closer UK-India ties.

He also shared plans for introducing a 'uniform vaccine certification' system by the Government of India to encourage international travel. The Foreign Secretary held meetings with senior representatives of the UK Government during his visit. Shringla said, “Mumbai, Delhi, big cities have become practically Covid free. But we cannot rest on this situation as we are constantly on alert."

Passengers coming from France will no longer be quarantined

Responding to a question on international travel, he said, "I informed them (British officials) about the situation of Kovid in India. I mentioned that France has removed the requirement of quarantine for travelers coming from India, provided they have received two doses of the vaccine and tested negative for COVID-19. The US has encouraged the UK to do the same by mentioning that India has upgraded its travel plan and they will look into it.

It is noteworthy that India remains in the red list of travel under the existing rules which prohibit visitors from India.
