He has been made the new ODI captain of Team India after T20 International. The ODI captaincy has been taken back from Virat Kohli. The All India Selection Committee took this decision on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma was made the new T20 captain of Team India after the T20 World Cup. Rohit has been made the captain of Team India till the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, had recently defeated New Zealand 3-0 in the three-match T20 series. Earlier, India's performance in the T20 World Cup 2021 under the leadership of Virat Kohli was very poor. They were defeated in two consecutive matches and the team could not even reach the semi-finals. Although Virat had already announced to leave the captaincy of Team India's T20 team.

Rohit Sharma will take over the responsibility of ODI captain of Team India from the three ODI series against South Africa. An ODI series will be played between the two countries in January. Before this, India has to play a three-Test series against South Africa. This test series will start from 26 December. India has played 20 Tests in South Africa. Of these, they have won only three.
