The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday received an email from former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar seeking more time to appear before the investigating agency.

It comes after Rajeev Kumar did not turn up at the CBI office on Saturday after being summoned by the agency in connection with multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.

The CBI officials will consult with their law officers over Rajeev Kumar’s request.

The CBI team also met advocate YJ Dastoor, who has been representing the agency in the court case by Rajeev Kumar.

Sources claim that the CBI is not contemplating any immediate coercive action.

Rajeev Kumar was issued summons and asked to appear before the agency on Saturday at 10 am after the Calcutta High Court withdrew protection from arrest granted to him in the case.

Rajeev Kumar was part of a special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the state government to probe the scam before the Supreme Court transferred it to the CBI.
