Delhi MAyor Election: In the first meeting of the newly elected MCD, there was a lot of uproar on Friday over the swearing-in of the nominated councilors. Amidst strong opposition from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilors, the first meeting of the MCD was held without the election of mayor and deputy mayor. Postponed. The presiding officer appointed for the election of mayor and deputy mayor and BJP corporator Satya Sharma said, the meeting of the MCD House has been adjourned for the day. Uproar started in the MCD House as soon as the process of administering oath to 10 aldermen (nominated councillors) was started. Many MLAs and councilors of AAP came close to the seat raising slogans. Instead of the elected councillors, he opposed the 'alderman' being sworn in first.

In response, BJP councilors started raising slogans against AAP and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Amidst the uproar, both sides also accused each other's members of scuffle. The meeting began with the swearing in of BJP corporator Satya Sharma as the presiding officer for the election to the post of mayor and deputy mayor of MCD. AAP MLAs and councilors protested when Sharma called Alderman Manoj Kumar to take oath. Raising slogans, many MLAs and councilors reached close to the seat in the House.

The process of administering the oath was stopped amid sloganeering by AAP councilors standing on other tables including the presiding officer's table. BJP councilors also gathered around the table. During this, there was a fierce verbal war between him and the AAP councillors. Sharma said, earlier the proceedings of the House were adjourned for an hour. Four aldermen took the oath. We will hold a meeting soon and the rest of the aldermen will be sworn in first.
