IND vs AUS Test Series 2023: Team India's batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the first match of the four-Test series against Australia due to a back injury. Now 2 players are considered to be big contenders for the place of Shreyas Iyer in Team India. Both these players are currently part of Team India in the three-match T20 series being played against New Zealand.

These two players are big contenders to play in place of Iyer

After the exit of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team management may consider feeding him in the middle order, preferring Shubman Gill over Suryakumar Yadav. Iyer has failed to recover from a groin strain and his ouster will create a slot in the Indian middle order. The contenders for this place are Suryakumar and Gill. Suryakumar has batted in the middle order in his career, while Gill has opened the innings for most of the teams in Test cricket.

BCCI source gave big update

Iyer, who has had a consistent run of form in his Test career so far, was also impressive during the 2-0 series win against Bangladesh in December last year. A source in the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) told PTI, 'When the New Zealand team came to India at the end of 2021, Shubman Gill's name was considered in the middle order. Then KL Rahul had to start the innings with Mayank Agarwal. After this Rahul got injured and Gill started the innings. After this he was injured again. His name was considered for the middle order in red ball cricket.

Team India's batting order will be like this

Captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Rahul are the first choice as the opening pair in the team. After this, it is decided to play Cheteshwar Pujara at number three and Virat Kohli at number four. The fifth order becomes very important because it is expected that the batsman landing in this order will face the second new ball. The former national selector said, "When India A's responsibility was in the hands of Rahul Dravid, Gill played in the middle order on the A tour of West Indies where he also scored a double century." In fact, initially he was a middle-order batsman who was converted into an opener.

Suryakumar can get a place because of this

Suryakumar's dominance against spinners can be crucial on spin-friendly pitches. He said, 'If Nathan Lyon is able to turn his off-spin balls more, then Suryakumar can spoil his rhythm with his footwork. But Gill is a better option against Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
