New Delhi. For the first time in the epidemic, on April 4, 2021, the number of infected people crossed 1 lakh in a single day. After this, on May 6, the number of patients had reached 4.14 lakh. However, now the cases are showing a decline. Experts are also saying that at present the condition of Kovid-19 can be controlled with the existing health infrastructure. In such a situation, it can be said that the country has passed through the worst phase of the epidemic, but the second wave is not over yet.

On Wednesday, the number of infected was at 1 lakh 22 thousand. This number is well above the peak of the first wave on 16 September last year. During that time 97 thousand 894 patients were found. Cases continue to rise in the north-eastern state of Assam. However, it is expected that there may be some relief at the national level.

Talking to Indian Express, Professor Manindra Agarwal of IIT Kanpur says, 'By the end of this month, the number of patients receiving daily will be around 20 thousand. This means we will be where we were in January before the start of the second wave. Agarwal is running a computer simulation to predict the pandemic.

He says, 'The lockdown imposed by the state governments helped a lot, there is no doubt about it. But even in the absence of a lockdown, the peak reaches at the same time i.e. in the first or second week of May. He predicts that if nothing goes wrong, the second wave could be over by the end of this month. Agarwal said his model shows that the ratio of reported and non-reported cases has not changed between January and now.

Also, the number of people receiving the vaccine can also be a big reason for this. More than 22 crore people in the country have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Yet close to 50 crore people say that they have developed some immunity against the virus through natural infection or vaccine.
