Two Bhubaneswar-based innovators have created eco-friendly pens made with newspapers, vegetables, fruit and flower seeds, news agency ANI reports. Two versions of the use and throw pens were innovated by Prem Panday and Md Ahmad Raza, and are available for sale through a start-up, Likhna. Pictures of the eco-friendly pens were shared by ANI and they look quite nice.

While speaking to ANI, Prem said that the pens contain a plastic refill but the body has been made with newspaper. They intend to find an alternative to the plastic refill soon.

"We tried to make eco-friendly alternative of plastic pens, as plastic is harming our environment. These pens aren't completely plastic free as they've a plastic refill, but body of the pen has been created from newspaper. Our next aim is to do away with plastic refill," Prem Panday told ANI.

Md Ahmad Raza added that the pens are also available in Germany and Australia apart from India. "Unlike regular use & throw pens, people can discard these pens in a pot or soil and within weeks it will germinate into a plant. We've received good reviews for our pens, not only in India but also from Germany & Australia. These pens are available in their markets," he said.

The internet is pleased with Prem Panday and Md Ahmad Raza's efforts to reduce the use of plastic and congratulated them.

The two versions of the eco-friendly pens cost Rs 5 and Rs 7 each.
