Uttar Pradesh / U.P. policemen beat up man for trying to file rape plaint

A station house officer in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh and his subordinates were suspended and booked for allegedly beating up a person who had come to report the kidnap and rape of his wife.

Director General of Police O.P. Singh, who took cognisance of the matter after it was tweeted to him on Monday, also ordered that the errant policemen be put “behind bars” for “crime against women.” However, the police were yet to ascertain the charges of rape. According to the FIR lodged by the husband, the couple were on their way to his sister’s house in Mainpuri to attend a function on July 5 when an SUV intercepted his vehicle near Navin Mandi area.

Three persons allegedly kidnapped the woman at gunpoint. The husband said his wife was raped and dumped on a road in Etah. When he approached the police, they didn’t believe his story and instead thrashed him and blamed him for harassing his wife.
