India / UP records highest single-day COVID-19 fatalities with 113 deaths

Lucknow: The highest single-day spike of 113 COVID-19 fatalities took the death toll in Uttar Pradesh to 4,604 on Tuesday, while the tally of coronavirus cases in the state rose to 3,24,036 with 6,895 more people testing positive for the viral disease.

The state now has 67,335 active COVID-19 cases and 2,52,097 people have recovered till date, Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

The death toll in Uttar Pradesh till Monday was 4,491. In the past 24 hours, the state witnessed the highest single-day spike of 113 deaths, taking the total figure to 4,604. On August 20, the previous highest spike of 95 deaths were reported in the state.

Among the fresh deaths, the maximum 15 were reported from Lucknow, 11 from Meerut, seven from Muzaffarnagar, six each from Gorakhpur and Saharanpur, five each from Prayagraj and Maharajganj, four each from Moradabad and Ballia besides other districts, a health bulletin released here said.

As far as fresh cases are concerned, the maximum 904 were reported from Lucknow, 409 from Kanpur, 387 from Prayajraj, 273 from Ghaziabad and 192 from Varanasi, it added.

So far, the maximum 539 deaths due to the virus were reported from Lucknow followed by 536 deaths in Kanpur, 223 from Prayagraj and 211 from Varanasi, it said.

Prasad said that 1,48,118 tests for detecting COVID-19 were conducted on Monday, raising the total number of tests carried out so far to over 77 lakh.

Presently, 35,293 patients are in home isolation. So far, 1,61,273 patients opted for home isolation of which 1,25,980 have completed their isolation period he said.
