West Bengal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the new vaccination policy on Monday. He said that from June 21, all the people of the country would be given free corona vaccine by the central government. PM Modi said that now the expenses of the state government will also be borne by the Center. The opposition has termed the announcement of PM Modi as a late decision.

On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that it took Prime Minister Modi a long time of four months to accept what he had said in February itself.

He tweeted and said- "In February 2021, I said many times, after that I wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi and made a demand on my behalf to give free vaccine to everyone. It took him 4 months after a lot of pressure to accept it. And finally they listened to us and are going to implement what we were saying."

In another tweet, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said- "The well being of the people should have been given priority since the beginning of this pandemic. Unfortunately, many lives have already been lost due to this delay on the part of the PM. Let's hope. It is hoped that this time there will be a better vaccination drive and the focus will be on the people and not on the propaganda.

Significantly, Prime Minister Modi, in his address to the nation on Monday, two weeks later, on behalf of the central government, announced the vaccination of everyone from June 21. Along with this, the time limit of ration given under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana has now been extended till Diwali.
