New Delhi : Trilateral summit between India, Russia and China can be held soon. Russia had recently discussed organizing the Russia-India-China summit during a virtual meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Russia claims that China has formally agreed on this. However, it has neither been confirmed nor denied by India yet. Therefore, it is believed that a tripartite meeting is possible in the near future in which the heads of state of the three countries reside.

This latest development is considered important in the light of the recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Delhi and the subsequent virtual summit with the Chinese President. President Putin referred to Xi Jinping's visit to Delhi and stressed that a tripartite summit should be held soon, the Tas agency quoted a spokesman for the Russian President as saying. The last talks in this format were held during the G-20 meeting in Osaka, Japan in June 2019 in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Putin and President Jinping were present.

After that these talks could not take place, due to which Corona, tensions between India and China, etc. could also be there. However, on November 26 last this year, there was a virtual meeting between the foreign ministers of the three countries. When asked about this, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that information has come in the media but they do not have any information to give on this issue yet. However, he said that talks have taken place between the foreign ministers in the RIC (Russia-India-China) format.

Hope to improve relations

Tension between the two countries had arisen after a clash between the soldiers of the two countries on the India-China border in eastern Ladakh last year. Even after several rounds of talks by top military commanders, tensions still persist on many points on the LAC as well as a deadlock in the talks. Therefore, the possible tripartite dialogue is also being viewed from the perspective that even if it is not likely to raise bilateral issues, it can still be effective towards improving relations.
