Bank Fraud Case: CBI has arrested former DHFL director Dheeraj Wadhawan in the bank fraud case of Rs 34000 crore. After arresting Dheeraj Wadhawan, he was presented in the special court in Delhi where the court sent him to judicial custody. Wadhawan had committed this fraud with 17 lending banks, which is the biggest banking fraud in the country so far.

Biggest Banking Fraud

CBI has already registered a case in connection with the fraud involving a consortium of 17 banks worth Rs 34,000 crore. Union Bank of India is leading this consortium of banks. Dheeraj Wadhawan's name was included in the CBI charge sheet in the bank fraud case in 2022 itself. At the same time, it is considered to be the biggest fraud in the banking history of the country. Even before this, CBI had arrested Dheeraj Wadhawan in the Yes Bank scam case and currently he was on bail in this case.

Allegations of fraud from 17 banks

CBI had filed a charge sheet against a total of 74 people and 57 companies, including DHFL CMD Kapil Wadhawan and Director Dheeraj Wadhawan, in the Special Court of Rouse Avenue Court, New Delhi. He is accused of committing fraud with 17 banks. CEO Harshil Mehta's name was also included in the charge sheet.

Rigging in DHFL's books

The APIR, which was filed on the complaint of Union Bank of India, said that DHFL's Kapil Wadhawan, Dheeraj Wadhawan, who was the director, along with other accused, had conspired with 17 banks led by Union Bank of India to carry out the fraud. hatched a criminal conspiracy and asked these banks to give a loan of Rs 42,871.42 crore. A huge amount of loan was withdrawn and misused. According to CBI, the books of DHFL were falsified. It was alleged in the complaint that the consortium of 17 banks has suffered a loss of Rs 34615 crore due to the outstanding amount as of July 31, 2020.
