Actually, Tesla is not manufacturing its cars in India right now. These cars are made in China and are imported from there to India. In India, 70 percent import duty is levied on electric vehicles. Apart from this, 30 percent luxury tax also has to be paid. This is the reason why almost half of the price of the car is going to the government treasury in the form of tax. In addition, other charges like road tax, insurance, and GST also increase the price further.

Many people are also saying that until Tesla starts manufacturing or at least assembling its vehicles in India, its prices will remain out of the reach of the common man. One user wrote, "The price of Tesla Model Y is doubling due to import duty and tax. Apart from this, road tax, insurance, and GST will also be levied. If production does not start in India, Tesla will not get success here."
