For the Indian stock market, Diwali isn't just a festival but a celebration of new beginnings. Dalal Street is buzzing with excitement as investors eagerly await the year's most auspicious trading session. This year, the special 'Muhurat Trading' session on Diwali is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
A Change in Tradition

However, this year, the one-hour special session will take place during the day. While this deviates from the long-standing tradition, investor enthusiasm remains high.
**Why is this 1-hour session so special?
Diwali is considered not just a festival of lights, but also the beginning of the Hindu New Year, known as 'Samvat'. Just as traders start new account books on this day, stock market investors consider it the most auspicious time to begin new investments. 'Muhurat' means 'auspicious time', while it's believed that investments made during this one-hour शुभ समय (auspicious time) bring good fortune and prosperity. This session is more about upholding a tradition than merely making profits. Many investors buy a few shares on this day, even in small quantities, and hold them. For the long term, considering it a 'shagun' (omen) for the new Samvat in the market.A Decade of Performance
