Shah assured the Gorkha community that if the BJP is voted to power, their concerns would be addressed through a permanent constitutional framework without partitioning the state of West Bengal. Constitutional Resolution for Gorkha Concerns
Addressing the Nepali-speaking Gorkha population, Amit Shah emphasized that the BJP is committed to resolving their issues within the constitutional ambit. He stated that the party intends to bring peace and stability to the hills, which have seen periodic unrest over the demand for a separate state. Beyond political solutions, Shah promised the development of an eco-friendly adventure sports hub in the Darjeeling region to boost tourism and local employment, marking a shift towards economic integration of the hilly tracts.
Zero Tolerance for Infiltration and Violence
A major portion of Shah's speech was dedicated to the issues of national security and internal law and order. He took a firm stand against illegal infiltration, promising that a BJP administration would prioritize the identification and removal of infiltrators, while he urged voters to cast their ballots decisively to send a message against political violence, 'syndicate' culture, and corruption. According to Shah, the end of the Trinamool Congress rule would mark the beginning of a transparent governance model in Bengal.
Infrastructure and Educational Blueprint for North Bengal
Highlighting the BJP's manifesto, the Home Minister detailed plans to transform North Bengal into an educational and healthcare hub. He announced the proposed establishment of premier institutions including an AIIMS, a 600-bed specialized cancer hospital, an IIT, and an IIM. Plus, he promised a dedicated Sports University for the region. In a move to address linguistic identity, Shah reiterated the pledge to include the Rajbanshi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Critique of Political Opponents and Religious Narratives
In Manikchak, Shah launched a direct attack on former MLA Humayun Kabir and the Trinamool Congress leadership. He criticized the rhetoric surrounding religious structures and accused the ruling party of practicing appeasement politics. Shah alleged that certain political elements were acting as agents of the Chief Minister to further divisive agendas. He maintained that the electoral mandate would put an end to such practices and ensure that governance remains focused on development rather than symbolic politics.
Agricultural Reforms and Market Access for Farmers
Focusing on the agrarian economy of North Bengal, Amit Shah addressed the grievances of potato farmers regarding crop pricing, while he stated that the current administration's policies have restricted the growth of the agricultural sector. Shah promised that the BJP would facilitate the supply of potatoes to other states, ensuring that farmers receive competitive prices for their produce.
