New Delhi: In protest against the citizenship law, there was a fierce demonstration at Jamia University in Delhi on Sunday. The protesters burnt 8 vehicles including 4 buses. Apart from this, students also performed in Aligarh, Banaras and Jadhavpur University of Bengal. Police had to lathi-charge after stone pelting of students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). More than 60 students were injured in this. Internet will be closed till 10 pm in Aligarh city today. As a precautionary section 144 has been implemented in 6 districts of western Uttar Pradesh, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Kasganj, Bagpath, Saharanpur and Bareilly.

The AMU administration has postponed the examination till 5 January. Registrar Abdul Hameed told that the hostels were evacuated from the students late on Sunday night. Arrangements were made to send them home by bus and train. ADG police Ajay Anand told that the situation in Aligarh is under control. Policemen are deployed everywhere in the city. Necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order.

Schools in South Delhi will be closed on Monday

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to the people to maintain peace. At the same time, after the violence in Jamia in Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced the closure of all schools in Okhla, Jamia, New Friends Colony and Madanpur Khadar area on Monday. After the violence, 14 metro stations in Delhi had to be closed, which was resumed on Monday morning.

Police released detained Jamia students 

The unruly mob near Jamia on Sunday blew up 8 vehicles and threw stones. Police lathi-charged the protesters at the university and released tear gas shells. The Students' Union claims that 100 students were injured and one died. However this was not confirmed. Police entered the university and detained the students. In protest, the students gheraoed the Delhi Police headquarters. In view of the protest against the students, Delhi Police has released all the detained students.

'The students of the neighborhood colony performed, not the students of Jamia'

The vice-chancellor of the university Najma Akhtar said that the bandh was called not by the students of the university but by people from a neighborhood colony. He said that the students clashed with him when the police broke into the university gate and entered inside.
