A nationwide search operation was launched on Sunday to nab other suspects. According to a report by Pratham Alo, Chowdhury said, "The brutal murder of Lalchand Sohag near Mitford Hospital on July 9 is extremely sad and barbaric. Such incidents have no place in a civilised society."He also informed that the police's Detective Branch (DB) detained two more accused on Saturday night. Chowdhury asserted that intelligence agencies are working relentlessly to nab the rest of the accused and no criminal will be spared, regardless of their political identity. "The government believes that a criminal is a criminal. Any criminal will be punished regardless of his political affiliation," he said.Details of the incident and viral videoThe horrific incident took place on Thursday at Rojhoni Ghosh Lane near Mitford Hospital. According to the viral video, the murder was a fallout of a business dispute. The video shows the assailants brutally beating scrap dealer Lalchand Sohag with pieces of concrete. Even after his death was confirmed, the assailants crossed all limits of brutality and started dancing on his dead body. The video has sparked widespread outrage on social media.The police had initially arrested five people allegedly involved in the murder, and now with the arrest of two more accused, a total of seven people are in custody.Questions on the government and public angerThe incident has raised serious questions about the law and order situation in Bangladesh. Hundreds of students took to the streets on Saturday and accused the interim government of failing to control mob violence.
