According to the report, China can challenge India, America and other countries by increasing its defense spending by 7.1 percent. The Chinese government has proposed a defense budget of ₹17.57 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2022, which is 7.1 percent on an annualized growth. China Daily has given this information by quoting the draft budget proposals presented by Prime Minister Li Keqiang. Compared with India, this increase is three times more than India's defense budget of 5.25 lakh crore (approximately USD 70 billion) for 2022.

Chinese prime minister cited security

Last year, China's defense spending crossed Rs 15,000 billion for the first time. In his work report presented to China's parliament, Chinese Premier Li called on the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to deepen comprehensive war preparedness. He said the PLA needs to conduct military conflicts in a firm and flexible manner to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security and development interests. Li said China's increase in this year's defense budget has been made amid the standoff in eastern Ladakh and its escalating political and military tensions with the US. China has the second largest defense budget in the world after the US.
