Jagdeep Dhankhar News: Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post citing health reasons. In a letter sent to President Draupadi Murmu, he wrote, "In order to give priority to health care and follow medical advice, I resign from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect, in accordance with Article 67 (A) of the Constitution."

Biography of Jagdeep Dhankhar

Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on 18 May 1951 in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. His early education was at Sainik School, Chittorgarh. He received B.Sc and LLB degrees from Rajasthan University. In 1979, he married Sudesh Dhankhar and has a daughter.

Legal and political career

Advocacy: Dhankhar enrolled as a lawyer with the Rajasthan Bar Council in 1979. In 1990, the Rajasthan High Court designated him as a senior advocate. He remained the most senior designated lawyer of the state till 2019 and has also been the president of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association.

Political career: Dhankhar started his political career with the Janata Dal and was an MP from Jhunjhunu Lok Sabha seat from 1989-1991. In 1991, he joined the Congress and was elected MLA from Kishangarh assembly seat. In 2003, he joined the BJP. He was the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022.

On March 9, 2025, Dhankhar was admitted to the Critical Care Unit of the Cardiac Department of AIIMS, Delhi after complaining of chest pain and discomfort.
