The fourth day of the 'India AI Impact Summit 2026' at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi featured significant addresses by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani. Authenticity Labels and Deepfake Prevention
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that digital content must carry clear authenticity labels to ensure transparency. According to the Prime Minister, the rise of deepfakes poses a significant challenge to social stability and individual privacy. He urged the global tech community to develop standards that allow users to easily identify AI-generated content. This initiative is aimed at protecting citizens from being misled by synthetic media and ensuring that technology serves as a tool for empowerment rather than deception.
The 'Glass Box' Approach and Data Sovereignty
Advocating for transparency in AI operations, the Prime Minister proposed a 'Glass Box' approach instead of the traditional 'Black Box' model, while he explained that AI safety rules and decision-making processes should be transparent and verifiable by external parties to ensure corporate accountability. Addressing the quality of data used for AI training, he cited the 'Garbage In, Garbage Out' principle, warning that unreliable data leads to dangerous AI outputs, while he suggested the creation of a global trusted data framework that respects national data sovereignty while facilitating innovation.
India's AI Infrastructure and GPU Expansion
Regarding India's technological capabilities, the Prime Minister shared that the country currently possesses 38,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). He announced that an additional 24,000 GPUs would be integrated into the national infrastructure within the next six months. This expansion is part of the India AI Mission to bolster domestic processing power. The Prime Minister noted that for India, technology is a medium of service rather than a tool for power, citing the success of UPI and CoWIN as examples of bridging the digital divide.
Reliance's ₹10 Lakh Crore Investment and Job Creation
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, announced a massive investment of ₹10 lakh crore to usher in the 'Intelligence Era' in India. Addressing concerns regarding automation and employment, Ambani asserted that AI wouldn't lead to job losses but would instead create new opportunities for high-skilled work, while he stated that India is positioned to prove that AI can enhance human productivity and economic growth. This investment is intended to build a solid AI ecosystem that supports startups and established industries alike across the country.
Human-Centric AI and Global South Accessibility
Prime Minister Modi cautioned against allowing AI to develop without human values and control. He referenced the 'Paper Clip Problem' to illustrate how a machine focused solely on a narrow goal without ethical constraints could deplete global resources. He maintained that the direction of technology must always be determined by human intent. On top of that, he emphasized that AI should be accessible to the 'Global South,' ensuring that developing nations aren't left behind in the technological race, while the summit continues to host discussions among 30 international organizations on establishing global AI governance standards.
