The journey of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 has commenced with a dominant display, largely fueled by the explosive batting of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, another pivotal reason behind their success is the star fast bowler Jofra Archer, who has appeared in his most lethal form this season. Archer's fiery spells during the powerplay have consistently troubled batsmen. Beyond his regular impact, Archer has now established a record that no other bowler in the 19-season history of the IPL has ever managed to achieve.

Wicket on the First Ball Against KKR

In the match played against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, April 19, Jofra Archer created this record on his very first delivery. The English star pacer clean-bowled Kolkata's opener Tim Seifert on the first ball of the innings. This not only provided Rajasthan Royals with an exceptional start but also marked a unique milestone in Archer's career. The precision and pace displayed in that opening delivery left the opposition stunned and set the tone for the rest of the encounter.

The Hat-trick of First-Ball Wickets

Tim Seifert wasn't the first batsman to be dismissed by Archer on the opening ball of an innings in this tournament. This was the third consecutive match in which the express pacer claimed a wicket on the very first delivery of the innings. Prior to this, Archer had dismissed Phil Salt of Royal Challengers Bangalore on the first ball, followed by the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma from Sunrisers Hyderabad, also on the first ball. Consequently, Jofra Archer has become the first bowler in IPL history to take a wicket on the first ball of the innings in three successive matches.

Equalling Mohammed Shami's Milestone

In addition to his consecutive match record, Archer has also equalled a significant career milestone held by Mohammed Shami. Until now, Shami was the only bowler in IPL history to have taken a wicket on the first ball of an innings five times. By dismissing Seifert, Archer has reached the same tally. He now shares the record for the most wickets (5) taken on the first ball of an innings in the history of the league. This achievement further cements his status as one of the most dangerous opening bowlers in the competition.

Dominance in the Powerplay

Archer's impact in the current season extends beyond these specific records. By the 28th match of IPL 2026, Jofra Archer has secured the highest number of wickets in the powerplay. He has taken 6 wickets during the powerplay overs so far this season, showcasing his ability to provide early breakthroughs for Rajasthan Royals. His performance has been a cornerstone of the team's bowling strategy, ensuring they maintain pressure on the opposition from the very start of the game.
