At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, unveiled a massive strategic roadmap to position India as a global leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Ambani announced that Reliance Industries and Jio Intelligence would jointly invest ₹10 lakh crore over the next seven years. This investment is aimed at integrating India into the ranks of the world's foremost AI powers and ensuring that the benefits of this technology reach every citizen.

' He stated that India can't afford to 'rent intelligence' from foreign entities and must instead focus on building indigenous infrastructure. The priority, according to Ambani, is to make computing and AI services as affordable as data, ensuring democratization of technology across the country.

Strategic Investment of ₹10 Lakh Crore

The announced investment of ₹10 lakh crore will be deployed in a phased manner over a seven-year period. This capital will be directed toward building strong AI infrastructure, advancing research and development, and enhancing cloud computing capabilities. Ambani highlighted that the goal is to lower the cost of AI services Notably, making them accessible not only to large corporations but also to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and individual users across the nation.

Gigawatt-Scale Infrastructure and Green Energy

To support the massive computational requirements of AI, Reliance is developing multi-gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centers in Jamnagar. According to official plans, 120 MW of capacity is expected to come online in the second half of this year, with plans to scale up to gigawatt levels. These facilities will be powered by green energy, utilizing up to 10 GW of solar power capacity from Kutch and Andhra Pradesh. On top of that, a National Edge Compute Network is being established to provide low-latency AI services at minimal costs nationwide.

Democratizing AI through Local Languages

A significant portion of the strategy involves making AI culturally and linguistically relevant to India. Ambani stated that AI must speak Indian languages and resonate with the local culture to be truly effective. Jio is working on AI models that can communicate in various regional dialects, ensuring that farmers, students, and small business owners can interact with the technology seamlessly. This localized approach is intended to bridge the digital divide and foster inclusive growth.

Sectoral Impact: Education, Healthcare, and Agriculture

Reliance Industries is actively deploying AI solutions across critical sectors. In education, the company is developing AI teachers capable of instructing in multiple languages to provide personalized learning, while in healthcare, AI-driven guides are being created to offer medical advice in local languages. For the agricultural sector, a system combining satellite data and AI is being developed to provide farmers with precise crop management and weather-related insights, while these initiatives aim to enhance the quality and accessibility of essential services.

India's Digital Public Infrastructure as a Foundation

Ambani identified India's large population, solid digital infrastructure, and low data costs as the primary drivers for its transition into an AI superpower. He noted that the existing foundations of Aadhaar, UPI, and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) provide a unique advantage. According to Ambani, if AI is made democratic and affordable, it will serve as a powerful tool for poverty reduction and economic prosperity. He also emphasized the role of the rapidly growing startup ecosystem in driving this technological transformation.
