Vice Presidential Election: With the announcement of the name of B. Sudarshan Reddy for the post of Vice President by India Block, the race for the Vice Presidential election has taken a new turn. On the other hand, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan filed his nomination on August 20, 2025. During this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states were present. Notably, PM Modi himself became the proposer in the first set of Radhakrishnan's nomination.

Nomination of CP Radhakrishnan

Nomination was filed in a total of four sets on behalf of CP Radhakrishnan. Each set includes signatures of 20 proposers and 20 seconder MPs. The first set was signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the proposer, which shows the unity of the NDA in this election. The other three sets included signatures of Union Ministers and NDA MPs. Radhakrishnan tried to garner support by meeting NDA leaders after the nomination. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is also active in garnering support for the NDA by talking to opposition parties.

B. Sudarshan Reddy: India Block candidate

India Alliance has declared B. Sudarshan Reddy as its candidate. Reddy's name was agreed upon in a meeting of opposition parties at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday. B. Sudarshan Reddy hails from Telangana and has a distinguished legal background. He has been a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court. After retiring from the Supreme Court in 2011, he played an important role as the chairman of the caste survey data analysis committee constituted by the Congress government in Telangana. Reddy will file his nomination on August 21, 2025.

The Election Commission has released the following schedule for the Vice Presidential election:

  • Issuance of Notification: August 07, 2025 (Thursday)
  • Last date for nomination: August 21, 2025 (Thursday)
  • Scrutiny of nomination papers: August 22, 2025 (Friday)
  • Last date for withdrawal of nomination: August 25, 2025 (Monday)
  • Polling date (if necessary): September 09, 2025 (Tuesday)
  • Polling time: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Counting date (if necessary): September 09, 2025 (Tuesday)
Political activities and strategy

After the announcement of the names of the candidates of both the alliances for the post of Vice President, the factionalism among the MPs has intensified. On behalf of the NDA, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is talking to the leaders of the opposition parties for support.
