Vice President Election: Opposition's Vice Presidential candidate B Sudarshan Reddy filed his nomination on Thursday. Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and many other prominent leaders of India Alliance were present on the occasion. Four sets of nomination papers were filed, signed by 160 MPs as proposers and seconders. These include the names of veteran leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Tiruchi Siva. The election for the post of Vice President will be held on 9 September 2025.B Sudarshan Reddy has been a former Supreme Court judge and Lokayukta of Goa. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Arbitration and Mediation Center located in Hyderabad. His legal and administrative background provides a strong base for the opposition.Opposition felicitation ceremonyBefore filing his nomination, B Sudarshan Reddy met with the leaders of the opposition alliance on Wednesday. India Alliance organised a special ceremony in his honour at the Central Hall of Samvidhaan Sadan. Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Sanjay Raut and other floor leaders were present on the occasion. Leaders like Kharge and Pawar felicitated Reddy at the ceremony, giving a message of opposition unity.NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan's nominationNDA's Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan filed his nomination on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were present during the ceremony. Radhakrishnan also filed his nomination in four sets, each set having the signatures of 20 proposers and 20 seconders. Prime Minister Modi signed the first set as the main proposer.Numbers: Is NDA's victory certain?Numbers are clear in the Vice Presidential election. There are a total of 782 MPs in the electoral college, including 542 Lok Sabha and 240 Rajya Sabha MPs. The NDA has the support of 422 MPs, while the opposition has 312 MPs. The support of 391 MPs is necessary for victory. According to this, the victory of NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan is considered almost certain. Now everyone's eyes are on what will be the margin of victory.
