There is good news for online shoppers. Nowadays the craze of online shopping is increasing rapidly. This saves people's time. But if you also shop online, then definitely read this news. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on e-commerce company Paytm Mall and Snapdeal.

Paytm Mall got a setback

The CCPA has ordered both the companies to withdraw the goods sold as well as refund the amount paid by the consumers, imposing a penalty for selling pressure cookers without standard. In fact, the CCPA in its two separate orders has found Paytm Ecommerce Pvt Ltd (Paytm Mall) and Snapdeal Pvt Ltd guilty of selling defective pressure cookers.

Customer complained

A customer had bought a pressure cooker under online shopping. The customer had complained about the quality of which. The CCPA found that the pressure cookers were not as per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standards and did not comply with the norms of Domestic Pressure Cookers (Quality Control) Order-2020 (QCO).

Paytm Mall had information

Let us tell you that the pressure cooker of Pristine and Cuba Company was given its platform by Paytm Mall. That is, these products were being sold on Paytm Mall. Whereas in the product description of this product it was clearly said that it does not have ISI mark. That is, knowing that Paytm Mall sold a poor quality product.

Snapdeal may challenge

Snapdeal, while defending this, said that it is only a middleman and it is not responsible for the seller to give information related to the content being sold on their platform. On this, the regulator said that you earn profit from every transaction on your platform, in such a situation, you cannot shirk your responsibility when such matters related to content come to the fore. Snapdeal has also said to challenge it further.

CCPA ordered

Subsequently, the CCPA, in its order dated March 25, has asked Paytm Mall to inform all consumers of the 39 pressure cookers sold on its platform, to withdraw the pressure cookers and to return their prices to the consumers. Apart from this, the compliance report of this entire process has been asked to be given within 45 days.

Already issued notices

It is worth noting that even before this, notices have been issued to e-commerce companies for selling pressure cookers ignoring BIS standards. These include Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, ShopClues and Paytm Mall. Not only this, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs had informed that BIS has seized 1,032 pressure cookers without ISI mark.
