BSNL 4G: Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) 4G service, marking a significant milestone for the nation. With this launch, BSNL's 4G service is now available in every state. Previously, the service was rolled out in phases across various telecom circles. BSNL has simultaneously rolled out its 4G network to 98,000 sites, marking the first time all major telecom companies in India have 4G networks.

98,000 Sites Go Live

The Prime Minister announced this historic launch from Jharsuguda, Odisha, along with other important projects. BSNL also celebrated its 25th anniversary on this occasion. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that BSNL has installed 98,000 4G/5G mobile towers and plans to install 97,500 more in the future to provide better connectivity to users.

BSNL's 4G service is based entirely on indigenous technology. Its software and hardware have been developed in India, with an investment of ₹37,000 crore. With this achievement, India has joined a select group of countries (Sweden, Denmark, China, and South Korea) that use indigenous hardware and software for their telecom networks. The Union Minister described this as a major step towards a self-reliant India.

BSNL's 5G and 6G preparations

BSNL is rapidly working not only on 4G but also on 5G services. According to a senior company official, 5G service could be launched in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai by the end of this year. Furthermore, PM Modi also mentioned preparations for 6G networks. The central government has claimed that the 6G roadmap has been prepared and that 6G service could be launched in India by 2030. This will make India one of the first countries in the world to implement 6G technology.

Users will get cheaper and better options

The launch of BSNL's 4G service will directly benefit its 90 million users. The state-owned telecom company's recharge plans are 30-40% cheaper than private companies. Previously, many users turned to private operators due to poor network connectivity, but now with improved 4G network, users may consider porting their numbers to BSNL.

TCS and Tejas Networks Contribute to Indigenous Technology

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tejas Networks played a key role in developing BSNL's 4G network. TCS assisted with network rollout and integration, while Tejas Networks developed the radio access network. This is a great example of indigenous technology, marking a significant step towards making India self-reliant in the telecom sector.
